My grandmother lives in a gated elderly community and they do outings every once in a while. For this trip we went wine tasting at the Gainey Vineyards in Santa Inez. She invited my mother and I so we went because, as she puts it, “I’m old. I have to do it while I’m able! Don’t wait until you’re old to do the things you want to do.” My grandmother is very smart and in keeping with her advice, I travel!

Gainey Vineyards
The Gainey vineyards were spectacular. They were established in 1984 (so not much older than myself) and are completely family owned. We were given a tour, followed by a tasting and we spent about an hour and bought one bottle of their delicious wine.

Learn To Take A Compliment
I had a weird moment in the gift shop. The woman was literally gushing over me. She had been staring at me in the beginning of the tour because the first place you go is the gift shop, then you go through the tour and end up back at the gift shop.
So in the midst of the woman ringing us up she stops what she is saying and she turns to me and she goes “I’m sorry but you are just so gorgeous.” Being me I didn’t know what to say. That’s not just not something that gets said to me. I was very flattered and took some photos of myself for personal use because maybe I did look really good that day.

After The Vineyard
From the winery we went to the casino. Nothing special about it. It was full of smoke and the machines were not hitting. I spent all the money taken to gamble with but my grandmother left the big winner. She put in maybe $30 and left with $150.
After the casino we went to into Solvang, which I have been to several times before and it is always such a treat. I didn’t take many photographs from this trip while we were there because it was such a short amount of time spent. The longest part of our trip was the Vineyards, which was by far my favorite.
Have you ever gone to a wine tasting? Did you like it or not?
