I think I am ready to get hurt again, so I’ve established my Camper Savings Goal. I know I said I was putting my dreams on hold, but I think it is time to get back on that horse again. You know, as the saying goes.

For example, I have to have a bathroom in the new camper. I did the bucket before and that was sufficient but I refuse to be completely without a bathroom. I disliked having to leave the camper to use the shower. I did sponge baths and washed my hair in the sink with an attachment and it was miserable, especially when I was winter camping in the Midwest. I want a full-in-the-unit-shower. It also needs solar panels or the ability to have solar hook up, plus heat and and a/c unit. Those are my non-negotiables. Everything else can be worked on, talked about, remodeled, etc.
I have saved for a camper before, I can do it again. I have never tried to save this much and I have never wanted to buy a brand new camper or a camper that I would be sharing with another human. I also have not even brought this up to the other human that I am wanting to do this because what if they don’t want to do this? There is a lot of uncertainty with it that is obviously a private conversation I need to have with my partner and not put out on the internet. My partner is very private and probably would not appreciate me even divulging this much information.
The Goal
So I’ve set a goal for myself, to save $20,000 (unless a really good deal comes along and I have the money and can make it happen sooner rather than later). I don’t have a date set to achieve this goal because I want to see what I can put aside by the end of the year and then realistically plan based on that (because statistically people spend more money in the 4th quarter than they do any other time of year). Ideally, I would like to purchase the camper by the summer of 2026. They aren’t going to get cheaper.

I already know what I want and have known for a long time that I want a Scamp fiberglass camper. I have cheated on Scamp a few times and entertained the idea of a Casita, Boler or even a Happier Camper. They all have the same fiberglass shell and they all have about the same problems and/or price range give or take a few cosmetics and/or whether or not I buy it brand new off the lot or slightly used. I also know what layout & length of Scamp (16′ layout 6) and the MUST’s and the “eh, I can live without that” based on what I had or did not have in my previous camper. I would also be into the idea of an Aliner, but those don’t have a built in bathroom so that’s really the deal break for that one. However, if the right deal came along I don’t think I would turn it down because they are really eye catching and can easily be towed by my SUV, which is what I have been camping in all this time when I go out on the weekends with Willow.
Accountability

I created a little Thermometer and I’m going to be filling it out and have it on the sidebar so you guys can follow along and see how I am doing with tracking my goals. Isn’t it adorable? But you guys need to hold me accountable. So each month I will do a post to check in and let you guys know how I am doing and show you how much I have saved towards my goals and how I got there, okay? I’ll also post it on social media too because I know that is easier!
